John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was a fantasy writer and a brillian linguist born in South Africa, where he shortly spent his childhood. Later, he worked as a professor at Oxford in England. His most famous work was The Hobbit which became an instant hit, after which Tolkien was paid to write the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
